In 1911, the British government shifted the capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi. It was after that that the beautification of Delhi started. British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens was given the responsibility of building an area in Delhi which is very posh and the most unique. This area is also known as Lutyens Bungalow Zone or Lutyens Zone. He led a team of architects and built the Viceroy House in the heart of the city, which we know today as Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Places like Connaught Place, Janpath, Prime Minister’s Office, National Museum, etc. come in this area. The entire area was named Lutyens Delhi after Lutyens. It is here that the bungalows of MPs, Lok Sabha Speaker, Vice President, heads of other important government offices, ministers are present. Its construction was completed in 1931 when it was formally inaugurated.
